It doesn't make me sexist. It makes me a human being with personal interests and preferences. Don't attack an artist for being politically incorrect. An artist's goal is not to please everyone. You will not change the artist, you will only hurt them the same way unsupported artists have been hurt. "Don't draw that, I want to see this instead. Nobody wants to see that." Believe it or not, "privileged" artists still have emotions, still have feelings, and still put years of effort and work into becoming successful.
Instead of attacking an artist that doesn't share your values, support those artists with non-mainstream ideas who aren't getting the support they deserve.
I'm so sick of people telling me that i should draw something that isn't macabre. Its all I want to draw, it makes me happy and it helps me grow as a person. At one point, somebody said I should Go to a concentration camp and die because I drew something he didn't like. It hurt me really bad, and I put tons of time and effort into what I do. Why can't I just draw what I want? :<
I also mostly draw girls.
But amen to this - all of this. People act like art is supposed to please every single person. It's almost impossible for any given art piece to please the whole of the world. If it were so, half the things wouldn't exist.
Personally I dunno why people keep pulling this 'privilege' crap all the time from tumblr to dA to everywhere in between. Everyone is in some way better or worse in some aspects when it comes to 'privilege'. I'm not good at walking anymore, but it doesn't mean I'm going to assault others who not only are good at it, but enjoy it. It's not fair to bash those who are better OR worse off unless they're being a jerk about it, which I dunno how drawing girls is mean or cruel.
I kind of draw females a bit. Doesn't make me sexist, and it's not my intent - nor is it most people's intent when they draw X to be a [X/Y]-ist of some sort.
Anyhow, well said. Especially that part about everyone still having emotions D:
But yeah, people should just not look at art they don't like. No sense looking at and hating on artwork you're not into when you could spend all that time enjoying your favorite stuff.
Just don't care ~
Same goes for me ^^ ~
I really agree with *AetherealBunny, though; female characters do tend to allow for more complexity in design. Cute clothes, boyish clothes, sexy plugsuits, short hair, long hair, pigtails, ponytails, ribbons, clips, frills, etc. etc.
It sucks that you're getting crap for that. Your designs are really great~ I hope you keep up with the good work.
